It's all about the Family Team

Wednesday, 11th February 2009

Crombie Wilkinson, Solicitors is very pleased to announce that their family law team has been enhanced by the recent appointment of Paul Barker, a Legal Executive of thirty years experience, to the Law Society’s Children Panel.

This addition to Paul’s battery of academic and professional qualifications means that he is now able to represent the interests of children in child care cases.

What makes this appointment so special is that Paul is one of the first, if not the first Legal Executive ever to be appointed to the Children Panel which was originally only open to solicitors and then to Legal Executives holding an Advocacy Certificate.  Unfortunately a suspension of training regulations by the then Lord Chancellor’s Department meant that such certificates could not be obtained.

After three years spent in discussions and applying to be allowed onto the Children Panel without the non-existent Advocacy Certificate I eventually received a letter from the Law Society granting me an exemption.  I went on to submit the necessary written work requiring in depth research,  attend the compulsory residential course and two interviews in Law Society Hall as well as voluntarily attending the National Youth Advocacy Service’s residential course at Warwick University.  I am therefore delighted and not a little relieved to have been appointed to the Children Panel in December 2008.” commented Paul.

To further strengthen the family law team, Sarah Richardson, family lawyer and mediator, has recently joined the firm at their Malton office. “I wanted to join a firm where they strive for the best in everything they do and who put the clients’ needs first. Being involved with family disputes and issues is stressful for all concerned. Working with a team who are understandable, proactive and supportive is what I like about Crombie Wilkinson.”

Chris Myles, Head of Family Law in the firm said, “Paul is extremely committed to his work with families and especially children and being appointed to the Children Panel in December 2008 is a reward well deserved for his effort, commitment and hard work.  Paul joins many of his colleagues within our family team across our many offices who are also members of specialist panels including the Children Panel, Family Law Panel and Resolution”.
