Review security procedures
Monday, 6th February 2012
Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors is advising businesses to review their security procedures after new figures revealed a record number of frauds in 2011.
CIFAS, the UK fraud prevention service, said fraud had risen by nine per cent year-on-year, with 236,516 cases reported. This included 113,259 cases of identity fraud and 25,070 facility takeover fraud cases, where an account, policy or other facility was fraudulently used.
Neil Largan, Director and Head of Dispute Resolution at Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors, said: “These figures show a worrying increase in the number of frauds, and businesses can be vulnerable to such offences if they do not have adequate security procedures".
“Firms should take this opportunity to review the measures they have in place, such as tightening up identification requirements when dealing with applications or by ensuring that passwords are regularly changed where sensitive data is concerned.”
