Also through the City of York Council website you can access the Home Services Directory.  The Directory was funded by York Trading Standards and was formed in cooperation with Age Concern York, City of York Council, Safer York Partnership and North Yorkshire Police. It has been compiled to help older people who are considering employing someone to carry out work at their property. The directory lists a range of traders, such as electricians, decorators, joiners and gardeners, who have undergone an assessment process.

In the Directory's 'Code of Practice' it states: "The aim is to ensure a level of service which both reflects good practice and satisfies customers, whilst promoting standard which traders also regard as reasonable."

The extent and variety of useful information that you can access by using a computer and the internet is vast.  If you or an elderly relative would like to access this information, but do not know how to use a computer you may wish to undertake a basic training course on how to use computers and the internet.  There are a number of training providers out there.  Please see the link below to Future Prospects, a local training organisation who offers basic free courses on computer and internet use or more complicated training for a fee.
