Farmers - Have you the correct permits?

  • Posted

Recent prosecutions by the Environment Agency serve as a reminder that farmers need to be aware of waste regulations when bringing material onto farm. The deposit of unsuitable waste materials onto farmland could leave you with an expensive clean-up, or even facing prosecution. Farmers have until 1 October 2013 to re-register agricultural waste exemptions in the new system. NFU Members will need to reassess their current business activities and operations, and apply for NEW waste exemptions appropriate to their own business needs.

The Environment Agency will be writing to all farmers over the coming months to explain what they need to do to move onto the new system before the final transition date. The easiest way of registering new exemptions is via  www.environment-agency.gov.uk/farmexemptions or call 03708 506 506. Guidance and information on waste exemptions is available from the NFU by clicking here
