National Playday

  • Posted

Every year for the past quarter-century, early August has marked National Playday - a celebration across the UK of children's rights to play out in their local community.

York has always been to the fore in this campaign, and  this year they are holding the Big York Playday in the Groves neighbourhood on Saturday 10th August, based at Door 84 youth club and in the surrounding streets.  Lots of free, fun play activities are planned for children and families, and to help create this temporary play world, the organisers would love to borrow a big pile of hay bales for the children to clamber over.   It's not proving easy, however, to find supplies of the old-fashioned brick-shaped bales.    Can you come to their rescue?   Big York Playday is being run on a shoestring budget - all the groups involved are donating their time and equipment for free - so they would really appreciate free loan of the bales, with delivery before and collection after the event, though of course they would pay for any damage.    If you can help, please contact Mark Gladwin, 07766 475952 or at  markgladwin@ntlworld.com.
