News on Disability Living Allowance

Since April 2013, new claimants in the north of England are claiming Personal Independence Payments to help towards some of the extra costs due to their long term disability or illness. New claims for PIP commenced in the rest of the country from June 2013. Existing DLA claimants of working age will be invited to apply for PIPs gradually between October 2013 and March 2016.

PIPs will not be assessed in the same way as DLA, although there will be two elements of entitlement, one for daily living and one for mobility. There are two rates for each, a standard rate for those who have limited abilities and an enhanced rate for those who have severely limited abilities.
