UK farmers will be the first in the EU

  • Posted

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has issued the veterinary pharmaceutical company MSD Animal Health, a license to provide the new ‘Bovilis SBV’ vaccine.  This means that UK farmers will be the first in the EU to have access to a vaccine to help protect sheep and cattle against birth defects caused by the Schmallenberg Virus (SBV).  It’s understood the vaccine will be available for use across the UK this Summer. Voluntary reports from farmers show that 1,753 farms have now tested positive for the virus.  The announcement will be a useful tool in limiting the impacts of the virus on our industry.
