All four of our offices in York, Malton, Pickering and Selby have now reopened their doors to the public following the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. Although we have continued to be able to offer a full service to our clients over recent weeks,...
We are very proud of our firm and individual staff members’ involvement in supporting local organisations with their charitable and fundraising activities across the North Yorkshire region.
The firm has a 'chosen charity' for each office each year, voted for by our staff members.
Our current chosen charities are:
- KYRA Women - York
- Black Cat Sanctuary - Selby
- Ryedale Carers Support - Malton
- Ryedale Dog Rescue - Pickering
Our support also involves sponsorship of local projects and charity events as well as individuals taking part in fundraising activities.
KYRA – Women’s project based in York
Their “mantra” is “Supporting women to make change”. This can be as a result of domestic abuse/divorce/separation/bereavement/alcohol or drug misuse or loneliness/isolation.
Juliette Kilkenny and Kim Denton from our Family Law team offer a free legal drop in for KYRA Women, whether it be their staff, volunteers, or the women themselves, to access initial legal advice in the comfort of the KYRA building, the first Thursday each month. KYRA Women do not receive core funding and rely on generous donations, grants and fundraising to offer their women a place of refuge, courses, counselling sessions etc.

Black Cat Sanctuary in North Duffield
Jackie founded Black Cat Rescue in 2001 and runs it as her hobby from her home in North Duffield near Selby. Jackie is very passionate about what she does and is committed to helping these animals find a good home. She has successfully homed hundreds of cats and kittens since 2001. She started a sponsorship scheme for many of the long stay residents to cover food costs and vet bills.

Ryedale Dog Rescue
Ryedale Dog Rescue was formed in 2005 and became a register charity in January 2007. Originally set up to rehome abandoned and unwanted animals within the Ryedale area it soon became apparent that there were a large number of dogs in the East Riding of Yorkshire area and beyond facing the threat of unnecessary destruction and desperately needing our help.
From humble beginnings homing 12 dogs in the first year they now home approximately 80 dogs per year and in 2012 homed their 500th dog since they began.
Ryedale Dog Rescue is run entirely by volunteers who take no personal expenses from the charity. They raise all our own funds through Fun Dog Shows, Tombola’s, Car Boot Sales, Raffles, Bingo nights, Coffee Mornings, and many other events. All the proceeds go directly to saving the lives of abandoned and unwanted dogs and finding them new forever homes.

Ryedale Carers Support
‘Supporting those who care for others’
Ryedale Carers Support is a local voluntary organisation and registered charity that provides practical and emotional help for carers, the people they care for and older people living on their own. The service is provided by volunteers who can visit weekly, fortnightly or monthly for a couple of hours.
Funding comes mainly from North Yorkshire County Council Health and Adult Services and also NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups; but the organisation operates independently of other agencies. They are affiliated to Carers UK so they keep in touch with Carers’ issues on a national level.
