Changes to Legal Aid

  • Posted

Did you know that here at Crombie Wilkinson we offer legal aid for family matters.

As some of you will already know, legal aid for private family matters was effectively removed unless you could prove that you were a victim of domestic abuse or there was evidence of child abuse.

From January 2018 the law was reviewed and some key changes occurred. There is now no time limit for evidence produced that you have been a victim of domestic or child abuse. The legal aid agency now also takes into account evidence from organisations providing domestic violence support and evidence from housing officers. It is also possible to use evidence of violence towards a previous partner as ‘risk of abuse’.

If you or anyone you know are suffering from domestic abuse, please get in touch with one of our experienced family solicitors for further legal advice.
