Kyra Women’s Project and Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors have been working together for five years this month to support women in need of legal advice. Women often come to Kyra to make positive changes in their lives after domestic abuse, mental illness, isolation or bereavement.

Each of these issues can lead to questions about legal rights and status, or about family court proceedings such as divorce, including financial settlements, child arrangements, child protection and Non Molestation Orders.

Crombie Wilkinson offers Kyra members a free consultation on these matters, offering advice, reassurance and signposting to specialist help where required. In the last five years, more than 75 women have benefited from this service, provided free of charge, and either delivered at KYRA’s St Saviourgate premises, Crombie Wilkinson offices or via telephone/video conference.

Rosemary Cook CBE, CEO of Kyra Women’s Project, says: “It is so valuable to have these sessions available to our members. Often they simply wouldn’t have the money or the confidence to find a solicitor for themselves, and this allows women to get some help and advice that they really need, from a professional. We are really looking forward to welcoming our Crombie Wilkinson colleagues back into Kyra’s premises now that we are open again after the lockdowns – a great way to celebrate the 5th anniversary of this wonderful partnership.”

Juliette Kilkenny, Legal Executive and Associate at Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors says: “Myself and my colleague Kim Denton, began working with KYRA in 2016 as a way of assisting vulnerable KYRA members who perhaps weren’t sure of what legal advice they needed or even where to go for that advice. We therefore take great pride in being able to offer free legal advice on family issues to those who need it the most, often at a very difficult time in their lives. We are very proud to have developed the working relationship we have with KYRA to offer so many members free legal advice to help them on their journey of recovery.”

To access this support, women should contact Kyra about membership by ringing 01904 632332 or emailing contact@kyra.org.uk
