Why Resolution Membership Matters – and Why Mediation Could Be Your Best Step Forward.
This week (10-14 Nov 2025) marks Good Divorce Week, a national campaign highlighting the urgent need for better support for families navigating separation.
Family courts are under immense pressure. Delays are long, resources are stretched, and families often find themselves stuck in uncertainty at a time when clarity and compassion are most needed.
As a Resolution member and family mediator, I believe there is a better way.
Divorce Doesn’t Have to Mean Conflict
Divorce is rarely easy, but it doesn’t have to be defined by hostility. Court should be the last resort. There are constructive alternatives that reduce stress, save costs, and protect children from unnecessary conflict.
Mediation is one of the most effective ways to achieve this. It gives couples the chance to make decisions together, in a safe and supported environment, without the adversarial nature of court proceedings.
What Resolution Stands For
Resolution brings together over 6,500 family justice professionals committed to helping families find solutions that work. As a member, I follow a Code of Practice that ensures:
- Prioritise the wellbeing of children
- Avoid inflammatory language
- Act with honesty, integrity, and objectivity
- Help clients consider the long-term emotional and financial impact of decisions
- Promote communication and collaboration wherever possible
- Use our expertise to guide clients through all available options
This Code isn’t just words – it shapes how I work every day, whether in mediation sessions or legal advice.
Why Good Divorce Week Matters
Good Divorce Week is about raising awareness of approaches that put families first, reduce conflict, and encourage solutions outside the courtroom. It’s about giving separating couples the tools to move forward positively.
As a solicitor and mediator, I’m passionate about helping families find a constructive path through separation – one that is fair, respectful, and focused on the future.
